One of Us.

Your mom and I, we're counting down
The days until that joyful sound,
When you turn the two of us to three.
It was time I guess, and heaven knew
And decided then to give us you.
God must know some things that we can't see.

And all we are, we are
Who we'll be, we'll be
Love and hurt, doubt and trust
Welcome to being one of us.

Your mother, well, she's strong and steady
Southern drawl and good lord, she's pretty
She's better than anything I dreamed
And honestly, I'm scared to death
I'll breathe at last at your first breath.
Everything you need, I'll try to be.

And all we are, we are
And who we'll be, we'll be
Love and hurt, doubt and trust
Welcome to being one of us.

On the Mend.

Today is Eleanor's first day without a fever since last Thursday.
(Praying it stays this way.)

The report from her dad for today is that she is cranky. And still has a nasty cough.
But she is breathing okay.
And keeping her milk down, which for the last few days she has only been able to keep Pedialyte down.

And when I went home for lunch today, I defintely saw a little smile.

It's been so hard watching her struggle to breath, feel her little body burning on fire and hearing her choke on her cough.

So here's to hoping my girl is on the mend. Just in time for her four month photo shoot this Saturday.

Say Hello!

I'm linking up with The Everyday Joys for the Say Hello! project :)

Hi everyone coming over from the Everyday Joys! My name is Kyla. I'm 26 years and last year I got married, bought a house and had our first baby, Eleanor. Can't wait to check out some of your blogs!

The questions...

1. What blogs do you visit daily? Please list 1-3 of your favorites.

2. Are you on Instagram? If so, what is your user name?

Follow me @kylasimpson
I mostly post pictures of that sweet little girl I have and our other day to day life.

3. Can we find you on Pinterest? What's your Pinterest address, and what can we expect to see you pinning most? (recipes, DIY projects, home decor, etc.)

I'm on Pinterest, here. (or search Kyla Graves)
Lately, I've been pinning lots of sewing projects, dinner ideas and fun crafts to try!

4. What are your favorite blog link-ups to participate in? (weekly link-ups other bloggers have...any number will do...please link us to them!)

I have been linking up to Weekly Weigh In on Mondays. But I'm interested in seeing what else there is to link up to.

5. Why do you blog?
I blog as a sort of journal/scrapbook to remember this time as a young family. I don't even care that noone reads it except my mom, but I know I'll love looking back one day.

6. Tell us one random fact about yourself.
I wear a size 12 shoe. Sigh.

Joy.

I have ALWAYS wanted to be a mom. I had big big plans of pumpkin patches, baking days, bedtime stories, popsicles and swimming pools in the summer. I've always known that I was meant to be a mom.

And now I am, albeit a new one, a mom.
I love it. And I'm so, so blessed to have a the perfect little lady.

There is so much I love about being a mommy to my sweet girl, every month she gets older I find myself thinking it doesn't get any better!
  • I love her crazy hair in the mornings. (And afternoons. And after baths. And...)
  • I love how smiley and talkative she is afer she wakes, when I get her out of bed and lay her on the changing table, she just smiles and coos and steals my heart over and over.
  • I love when I hold her facing me, with her head over my shoulder, and I will put her other arm around my neck like she is hugging me, and she leaves it there.
  • I love picking out outfits and dressing her up. And having a coordinating bow for every outfit.
  • I love that she follows her dad and I around the room with her eyes or when she hears our voices.
  • I love that she is such a good sleeper.
  • I love when I first see her after I get home from work. I miss her so much!
  • I love those huge smiles that can truly light up a room and get a reaction from everyone!
  • I love that she is a true Daddy's girl. He will walk her around this house for hours and hours if thats what will make her happy. He says he will do it til his arm falls off.
  • I love how she gives real laughs when I kiss her belly or neck. Those baby laughs are music to my ears!
  • I love when she looks up at me while nursing, and gives me a huge smile. And how nursing always calms her down and comforts her.
  • I love it that everytime we pick up her up, she has lost a sock somehow.
  • I most of all just love her sweet disposition. She melts my heart on a daily basis and I just can not imagine life without her.

ER Visit.

I cannot think of anything worse then seeing your poor baby feeling awful. And hearing the nasty cough that just rattles her chest. And seeing her eyes and face turn red from choking on the mucous.

My sweet girl has been sick since Wednesday night and I'm so ready for this to be over.

We went to the Dr. first thing Thursday morning and they said it was just a cold, and nothing they can do, just to watch her. Nobody should be allowed to tell brand new, first time parents that!!

Friday night she had a fever of 101 but it broke with Tylenol. Saturday afternoon it got back up to 100.4 and broke with Tylenol again. But we could hear a rattling in her chest and she was having a hard time breathing, so my sister and I decided to take her to hospital.

While we were waiting, she started projectile vomiting all of her milk. And choking on her mucous when she coughed.

My poor girl.
When we got to the room, 2 nurses and a doctor came right in. They swabbed her nose (ouch) and confirmed she has RSV. She had a breathing treatment. And then listened to her again and said that it didn't really do anything for her.

Then Grandma texted and even though we were almost done, insisted on rushing to see her little angel baby. ;) There was a moment they thought she might be admitted if she kept throwing up, but she managed to drink some Pedialyte and keep it down.

Some other notes about our first ER trip:
1. Eleanor had a blow out up the pack of her pajamas.
2. My sister made fun of me for putting a bow on her to go to the hospital.
3. We were there from 8:00pm to 11:30.
4. We kind of felt like lepers because every nurse/dr/info lady would put on the mask before coming in and more than one said, I heard your husband had the flu last week. And one trio called themselves the masked brigade.
4. Eric was at work and couldn't come because of a catering, but he kept up via text. And let us know that he would come if Ellie asked for her dad.

We can't wait for you to feel better, Eleanor girl. You are so loved.

The Weekend Eric was sick.

Poor Eric came home on Wednesday and went straight to bed, not feeling well.
And stayed there all of Thursday. And Friday.
By Friday afternoon, I finally made him go to the doctor's. He had a 102.5 fever and the flu.

So Eleanor and I packed up and went to my parents' house for the weekend.
I stopped back by the house a few times to drop off some chicken noodle soup and Redbox movies.
And poor Eleanor, she just didn't have any fun hanging out at the grandparents house all weekend.
No one to hold her.
Or take a nap on.
Or sing her songs.
She just had to sit in her bouncy chair with Frieda and drool all over herself.
We came home this afternoon because Eric's fever had finally broke last night. We are still being careful and not letting him near Ellie until he is fever free for 24 hours. And those two just miss each other so much!

I also finished up another outfit today! A ruffle shirt to match her ruffle pants. I LOVE IT!
We watched the football game and I think Eric about had a heart attack! But thankfully the 49ers won and kept my husband in a good mood. He told Eleanor, "Do you know that you before you even turn one, you might get to witness the Giants win the World Series and the 49ers win a Super Bowl?" I love those two. We are so glad to be back home with Eric, and extra happy that he is feeling better.

Sew Much Fun.

I got a sewing machine for Christmas, and I have been having so much fun with it.
I have been looking up tutorials and Pinning ideas and printed off a couple of patterns.

But my biggest problem is just sitting down and actually SEWING something!

So far, I've made 2 pairs of ruffle pants, a few burp cloths and a couple appli
que on shirts.
But my FAVORITE thing I've made so far, is this sweet little peasant dress. I think I'm going to add a couple ruffles on the front, but it is just so precious. (Or maybe it's my model making it so cute?)

It took me two solid nights trying to get this dress done. My sidekick isn't really into playing on the floor while mom sews, so I have to work around her or when Eric gets home from work. ;) And half the time I get something all the way pinned on and realize I did it backwards. But eventually I got it all right, and it turned out pretty darn cute.

I have looked into taking a basic sewing class so I won't feel so intimidated, and I am supposed to meet with a girl in the next couple of weeks who makes clothes for her little girl. So I think with some more practice, Eleanor will have lots of cute outfits in the future!

Weekly Weigh In

Week Two Stats:

This weeks loss= 5 lbs

Total loss= 14.5

This Week's Changes
I really, really struggled this week. So many times I found myself thinking I HAVE to have a _____ (insert: Cheeseburger, ice cream, cookie, whatever).
And sometimes I talked myself out of it. And sometimes I didn't.
It's just so dang hard. But I'll take this loss and try harder this coming week.

This Week's Goals:

My goal this week is accountability. I want to track everything I put in my mouth and see if it helps me determine my weak areas. And hopefully knowing that i have to wrote down that french fry will help me stay strong! I also want to keep working on last weeks goal of planning my meals!

What are your goals for this week?! Maybe we can help each other stay accountable.
Wish me luck!

** Also, whenever I try to upload pictures, the browse button to upload from my computer is gone!? I have no idea what happened, but whenever I want to upload a picture I have to do it on my phone. Does anyone know what might have happened? So frustrating!*

Coming Home Outfit

My mom and I looked for Ellie's coming home outfit before we ever knew she was a girl.

I knew I wanted something sweet, old fashioned looking or smocked.
Something she could pass down to her own daughter.

And so we looked and found this sweet floral smocked dress that was everything I was looking for.

When we went to the hospital, Eric hung it up on one of the cabinets so we could look at it. It reminded me of how soon she would be here and wearing that sweet dress.

But then, the NICU happened. And we were in the hospital for 6 days before all the cords were off and we got to go home. We were so relieved to leave the hospital, that we just left you in the pajamas you were wearing. I'm sad to say I can't even remember which ones they were.

And so it has just set in her closet because it's been too cold to wear.

Today, I got it out and took some pictures because I know too soon you won't fit in it. Funny though, at 3 months it fits you perfect.

{These were at the end of our photo shoot, so she were getting kind of tired. But I'm still glad we got something to remember this "coming home outfit."}

Hey mom, lets wrap this up.

Photo Shoot Sunday

Photo Shoot Sunday.

I have a new DSLR camera. And a perfect, tee tiny little model. And some natural sunlight.
Sounds like the perfect makings of a photo shoot to me. :)

I tried to narrow it down, but my model is making it too hard!!
3 months 11 days.
