fresh meat.

last sunday, i decided to step out of my box and try something new.
and something that scared me.
and something that excited me.

i went to my first roller derby, fresh meat practice!

i must have texted eric 100 times sunday afternoon about how nervous i was. and i was really doubting myself, wondering if i could even do it and if i would fit in.
and he kept his patience with me and assured me 101 times that i could do it.

i told myself over and over, you can do this. you are strong. you can do this!
the butterflies i had going in were unreal.

turns out the boot camp has already been going for 6 weeks so the 5 of us brand new girls were seperated to learn the very basics.
we learned how to skate, t-stops, plow stops, skated on one foot.
and then it was over. it went by SO fast!

last night was practice #2 and after a little review, we learned something new: the crossover.

my feet were not comprehending what my brain was telling it, and i had more than a couple of good falls! (well one was good enough for one of the refs to ask me when practice was over how i was feeling!)
when i asked coach jay to watch me, he told me to not over think it, that my form was better than i thought. so hopefully some more practice and my feet will cooperate a little better.

i'm so excited to try something new. to make some new friends and learn a new sport. get in shape and have some fun. but i'm not going to lie, one of the things i'm looking forward to most is picking my derby name!!! ;)

Snow Day.

Wednesday we were supposed to get a huge ice storm.
So at the first sign of snow, my work sent me home early.

I picked up my little sweet thing from the babysitters and we headed home to get in our sweats (&pjs)  and cuddle.
An impromptu girls day. :)

Even though the snow was melted a few hours later, and she never even got to see it- I know that we both love snow days.

1. & 2. Latest creation for Eleanor- my first knot dress
3. All dolled up for daycare
4. Tee tiny Valentines

little valentine.

yesterday was baby eleanor's first valentine.

and she's a lucky little lady because she got to hang out with her dad all day, got THREE valentine's cards in the mail + a new doll, rattle & blanket from her grandparents. she's pretty loved!

I can't wait to continue a tradition from my childhood on Valentine's Day where my mom would serve us red food, with red kool-aid and a pink dessert like strawberry cake or something.

I was telling Eric about it and we were brainstorming ideas.. spaghetti, strawberry soda, heart shaped pizza with heart shaped pepperonis, strawberry shortcake. Can't wait.

can't even explain the fool you have to make of yourself to try to get TWO babies to look at the camera!

and the rest of our night consisted of cousin time for eleanor, algebra homework for me and work for Eric. Not the most romantic of Valentine's but we spent it with family, so that's pretty good for us.

date night.

Eric and i have decided to start dating each other again. ;)
We think that with a new baby, it is important to make the time to spend with each other one on one. And hey, we have free babysitters- so why not?

The plan is to alternate months and plan a date night for each other. It can be going out or staying in. The only rule is it has to be thoughtful. Not just a dinner and movie, with no thought involved.

Eric started us off this month and his date was:

A roller derby match!

What made it so thoughtful was that I had seen a flyer a few weeks ago and just mentioned that I thought it would be neat- and Eric had remembered.
Major brownie points to him.

Sunday was date night and Eric works til 4 and he wanted me to be ready by the time he got home. So it was 3 in the afternoon and I haven't even had the chance to shower yet!

How could I when I have this little cutie to play with!

So I managed to get myself together, take Eleanor to my sister's house for some fun and then make it back home to meet Eric. We both wondered on the way there if there would even be anyone else there to watch. What a surprise! Like 200 people there, the parking lot was just packed.

We went and had some BBQ.
We made an effort to talk.
We made an effort to not be on our phones.
We tried to figure out what the heck was going on with the derby competition.

It was SO MUCH FUN! I cannot wait to date my husband and really spend the time with him and connect.

Also, Eleanor came home from her Aunt's house with pink fingernails! oh my word.

we've got teeth.

two bottom teeth.
it took 4 months and 5 days for your first teeth to break through.

we knew this was coming.
with all the gallons of drool and grumpy attitude.
plus your dad was an early teether.

since these pictures, the left one has come up even more- but it is SO hard to get a non blurry, non shadowy, picture from a squirmy little lady.

Super Bowl Sunday.

Yep, we're still not allowed to talk about it.
I texted Eric on Monday morning and asked what him and Bells were doing.
"Just sitting around, depressed."

Good news is we are boycotting ESPN for the week in order to not relive any replays. ha!

And the look of defeat. Ellie can't even watch any more of it.

4 month check up:

Saturday.

Saturday's have been very busy for me these last few weeks.
I get up earlier on Saturdays then I do on weekdays for work.

For some crazy reason, I thought it would be a good idea to sign up for a four hour College Algebra class starting at 8am. Boo. And not to mention that my professor is a rambler.
Less stories, more examples. Please.
But I do have a really cute, hot pink calculator. So there's that.

So I get home about 12:40, pump, eat lunch, get Ellie ready and we are back out the door for Kap's basketball game.

On our way, I call Kap and give her our weekly pep talk.
"If you are near the goal, what do you do?" Shoot it.
"If the other team shoots it, what are you gonna do?" Rebound it.
And so on. My sister says every week that Kap is waiting on me to call and give her the pep talk. Love that.

And afterwards, we do the obligatory photo shoot with our star player.

After we left the game we went to the park, sat in the Lowe's parking lot for 45 minutes waiting on our friend to wake up from his nap so we could go to the park with them. Not long enough to go home but Ellie did nurse and then take a little nap.

Eleanor loved it. She didn't make a peep from her stroller the whole time and was just looking around at everything. I can't wait until it's warmer so we can do it more often.

Then we came home and just hung out, watched tv, played on the activity mat, read a couple books, did some homework and waited for Eric to get home. But it was a late night for him, so we were actually in bed before he ever made it back.

We were in bed by 10:45 and Eleanor slept in until 9:30. Sunday I was a whole new (well rested) person.
